One of my dearest friends in the world Bree Despain wrote a book, and on top of that she got that book published. Yesterday her book was released and she wanted to have a little party to celebrate the day. Since she is extremely busy writing the sequel, she asked if I would handle the decorations for the dinner. I have to say that when I do events like this (which I don't do much anymore since I am so busy taking pictures of other people doing this stuff) it rarely ends up looking as good in real life as it did in my head. Last night, however, it looked just as I pictured it would. Which means it looked amazing! I felt it ended up being a real reflection on the book which is also amazing!

Since the book is purple and black we used those colors throughout. And since it is Christmas time we used mainly purple and silver Christmas balls, and tons of candles of course to set the mood.
There is a special tree in the book, so I went ahead and "built" Bree a couple of trees. Here is one of them:
I think this is the first pic of me ever to appear on the blog, but I HAD to get a pic of me along with the girl of the hour and our friend Nicole.
Jessica and Joe's reception was a complete party. Most guests never seemed to leave and by the end of the night almost everyone was on on the floor shaking it. I had a great time, as you will soon see.
Now this is the second time I have taken a picture like this, and neither time was it MY idea. What is this saying about wedding dads everywhere?
There was a serious dance party going on that night at Joe and Jessica's reception. It started out with the little kids, but by the last few songs everyone was getting into it. Even our bride and groom who told me that they weren't going to dance took some time to dance together.
Everyone stuck around for the bubble send off. I get a super kick out of everyone blowing bubbles out of those little wands, but seeing Joe's dad blow bubbles with delicate ease just killed me!
Thanks Joe and Jessica for being such a lovely couple. I wish you the very best and then some!
I just had to share this Christmas card that I got from one of my best clients today. Brandy was worried about sending me a card with another photographer's pictures on it, and even though I told her that I was completely ok with it she still made a special card just for me. I about died when I saw it. This must have taken forever and shows signs of a woman mildly obsessed with me. However, be not concerned; I am always comfortable with people being obsessed with the pictures I take. Thanks, Brandy! I can't believe how many adorable faces of Mason we've been able to capture this past year!

I know there are nasty little brides out there, but this year I certainly have not worked with any of them. Jessica and Joe were both such lovely people and it was such a pleasure to work with them for their wedding. At the reception I asked Jessica if she was tired and she said she was, but that she was having the best day and she didn't even really notice how tired she was. I was so glad. All brides should be able to say something like that on their big day. Especially ones as sweet as Jessica.

Just about anyone can simply take a picture. However, a photographer sees art in real life, and creates an image that makes live art permanent. That is what I try to do every time I pick up my camera.
